Who We Are
The Manlius Greenspace Coalition was founded in 2005 by community members to address the threat of the loss of open space in the Manlius area, located near Syracuse, N.Y.
The Coalition is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization comprised of all volunteer members. Currently there are five board members and several community members serving as advisors. The Board meets monthly; there is no paid staff.
MGC has over 275 members and supporters. The Coalition’s goal is both to advocate for and educate citizens about preserving open space in the Manlius area. We have been successful thus far in preventing development of Three Falls Woods.
MGC has succeeded in getting the Town of Manlius to designate it as a Critical Environmental Area in July of 2009. Now we are working on acquiring the land to preserve its recreational and ecological value. We are also creating an Open Space Vision Map for Manlius, through a NYS Department of Quality Communities Grant in conjunction with the Town of Manlius, to help identify and shift destructive development patterns.
